World Series Game 7 Captures Over 50 Million Audience Members In the US, Canada and Japanese Markets.

The nail-biting extra-inning clash that saw the Dodgers defeat the Blue Jays by one run averaged a total 51M watchers across the United States, Canada, and Japan markets. MLB stated this represents the highest-rated World Series Game 7 after the 1991 edition contest featuring the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Ratings Breakdown

Last Saturday’s epic game averaged 27.33M audience members on Fox networks, its Spanish-language channel and Fox’s digital services. According to ratings data, it was the second most-watched broadcast of the week.

It also is the most-watched Fall Classic matchup after the 2017 edition final game between the Dodgers and Astros, which averaged 29.07 million. This represents a 16% increase over the last Game 7 between the Washington Nationals and Astros, which drew 23.19M.

In the weekly rankings, the sixth game placed fourth, the fourth game was 7th, Game 5 came in eighth, and the third game landed in thirteenth position.

International Audience Numbers

In Canada, the game recorded 11.6 million viewers on the Sportsnet network and the French TVA Sports. This was the most-watched English-language broadcast in the country since the 2010 edition Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the deciding game started at 9 PM local time, it drew 12 million viewers. This followed last Friday’s Game 6 – in which Fall Classic MVP Yamamoto gave up a single run in six frames – averaged 13.1M spectators, making it the most-watched Fall Classic matchup on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Series Totals and Patterns

The full seven-match series averaged 15.71 million viewers on the Fox network, a 2% increase from the previous year’s Dodgers versus Yankees matchup. This marks the first time after 2015 and 2016 that the World Series has seen viewership growth for two consecutive seasons.

Counting the Game 1 broadcast on the Univision network, the total American average reached over 16 million. The overall Fall Classic average in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1M in the Canadian market.

The full MLB Postseason on Fox and its sister channels recorded over 8 million viewers, an eight percent increase compared to last year and Fox’s best playoff ratings after the 2017 season.

MLB reported that the World Series was televised in over 200 nations and regions by forty-four media partners in sixteen various tongues.
