Hollywood star Demi Moore delivers a masterful performance playing Elisabeth, an aging actress demoted to starring in a workout series on television. This Supernatural Story

Steven Soderbergh tests his film-making abilities with this clever ghostly tale captured wholly from the viewpoint of the spirit. As a family including mother Rebekah plus Callina Liang as Chloe occupies their new suburban house, the lens – representing the ghost – follows them around. Chloe seems conscious of the poltergeist, and the entity appears guarding her. But why? The premise is enjoyable that avoids overstaying, with a twist that may be unexpected. Nicolas Cage's Meta Comedy

Nicolas Cage fully commits to his eccentric image via this meta comedy caper. Hired by the intelligence agency to investigate the potential kingpin, the actor's unique performing skills proves useful. October 11th, 9pm, Channel 4

The Black Phone Horror

The director's claustrophobic thriller remains effective despite the lack of a sequel. Located in 1970s Colorado, a series of kidnappings has left the youth on edge. Once Finney gets captured by the villain and imprisoned in a basement, he dreads a terrible outcome. Yet the non-functional line mounted nearby keeps ringing, with eerie communicators giving advice, as the prescient dreams of his sister Gwen could save him. A solid creepfest. Saturday 11 October, nighttime, the Film4 channel

The Tammy Faye Biopic

In the struggle between God and Mammon, it's a knockout win for Mammon in Showalter's brilliantly over-the-top biopic regarding the shamed televangelist and her felon spouse. The actor portrays the greedy Jim, who proclaims initially, “God does not want us to be poor,”. The couple set about monetising the nation's Christian beliefs. It's an extravaganza of bad interior design, overdone appearance and hypocrisy, however the lead actress manages to depict the character in a likable light. October 14th, late night, on Film4

Black Bag

This period's another release by the same director delivers a spy mystery as precise as the polo necks used by the actor's UK spy. He receives a mission with uncovering a mole within their ranks from a group of five – including is Kathryn, played by Cate Blanchett. Both actors are masters of understated style, leading to a delightful mind game of deception or honesty unfolds. Tom Burke, Regé-Jean Page, Naomie Harris and Marisa Abela join in the clever spy entertainment. October 17th, 8.05am, 12.55pm, 8pm, Sky Cinema
