In a surprising partnership that breaks usual expectations, Ubisoft has announced an in-game crossover between Assassin's Creed Shadows and the renowned anime series Attack on Titan. The unusual Thanksgiving event operates from November 25 through December 22, providing free additional story content for Shadows players.

Mysterious Mission Disclosed

According to the authorized release, "A strange meeting draws heroes Naoe and Yasuke into a fresh mission, where hints of forbidden ceremonies and terrifying metamorphoses resonate through the obscurity." The narrative presents a "unusually attired woman named Ada" who charges the duo with venturing into the Crystalline Cavern—a key location from Attack on Titan—to liberate her ally from a secret cult.

The questline centers on "bizarre trials and a terrifying enemy" and is available to all players who have gained access to the Yasuke character.

Recognizable Locations and Changes

The teaser highlights the Subterranean Sanctuary from Attack on Titan redesigned as the Crystal Cave. This significant location was formerly where the Reiss royal family handed down the Founding Titan ability through eras. The trailer concludes with a dramatic sequence showing a character, presumably the hostage, transforming into a Titan that towers over Naoe and Yasuke.

Unique Items and Bonus Material

Players who successfully complete the adventure will acquire an exclusive katana in addition to multiple objects secreted throughout the area in secret chests. The update also includes in-store Attack on Titan item packs, including:

• Titan-inspired outfit for Yasuke
• Mikasa attire for Naoe
• Special weapons
• Survey Corps vehicle

Latest Free Story Update

This release also brings the game's latest complimentary story content, titled "The Mystery." This lighthearted mission pairs Naoe and Yasuke as they swap signature skills: Naoe introduces a performative interpretation of Yasuke's war kick, while Yasuke masters non-lethal stealth takedowns. Faithful to its name, "The Mystery" also includes a new environmental puzzle that may ultimately explain some unresolved questions from the main storyline.

This signifies scarcely the first time the Assassin's Creed franchise has partnered with popular anime properties. The series formerly included a 2020 collaborative story uniting Assassin's Creed: Valhalla with Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga. Additionally, Valhalla subtly contained a quest that obviously echoed the popular series One-Punch Man.
